Liz Liza Westwood (リズ・リザ・ウェストウッド) is a former Knight and a teacher in the Magic Division of the National Knight Academy. She is the only known contractor of Agares.

Appearance[]

Liz Liza is a very short teacher, she has neck length hair that is tied in a bun. Liz Liza is always seen wearing a formal outfit with a very short skirt, knee-socks and black boots. Even though Liz Liza looks like a kid, she is in fact somewhere around 30+ years old, in other words she has eternal youth. Her Decorteo Brigieux (Magic Dress) takes the appearance of a green colored dress with an oversized wizard hat with a red ribbon around it, Liz Liza also summons a staff with an hourglass on it which has the ability to manipulate time.

Personality[]

Liz Liza may be a short person and look like a pre-schooler, but her personality tells otherwise. She is very harsh to her students calling them trash. But in truth, she just wants to make them good Knights. She is a teacher with a strong and straightforward sense of justice. She was even the first among the adults to ally with Hayashizaki Kazuki after his power as a King was discovered.

Liz Liza is surprisingly very self-conscious about her physical appearance. This wasn't helped by the fact that most of the men that approached her were only interested in her because she looks like a kid. This made her give up on dating and focus on her work instead.

History[]

Background[]

Liz Liza was one of the first Knights that fought in Japan's great tragedy years ago. She was a companion of Hibiki, whom she admired and looked up to as a big sister-like figure. She is the only known survivor from the first generation. At some point in her career she was partnered with Swordsman Tsukahara Hisatada, who became a teacher at the Academy along with her. Liz Liza had her time frozen by her Diva Agares and retained the body of an 18 year-old.

Plot[]

Volume 1[]

Chapter 2:

  • Liz Liza greeted the students of Year 1 Class 2 with her usual abusive style. She noticed Hayashizaki Kazuki was drawing a lot of curiosity as the first male in the Magic Division. She declared Kazuki to be “E-Rank trash” and told them he wasn’t worth their time. This was enough to shift their opinions drastically. Kazuki admitted to being the lowest rank but didn’t plan to stay there, meeting her approval. She also noted that the only two Rank-A students were also in this class. Amasaki Miō stood up and declared her ambition to be the strongest Magika Stigma and the next Student Council President. Liz Liza chewed her out for talking out of turn. Elf Hiakari Koyuki calmly raised her hand so people knew she was the other Rank-A. Kazuki was so captivated by her beauty that Liz Liza chewed him out for not paying attention in class. While they waited for their turn to do the Contracting Ceremony they went around the room introducing themselves. She was going to skip over Miō who talked out of turn earlier but she got up and spoke anyway. When it got around to Kazuki he listed his swordsmanship as his strongest talent and everyone criticized him. Even Liz Liza told him that the rivalry with the Swordsmanship Division and the superiority the students felt over the Swordsmen meant that he wasn’t doing himself any favors by mentioning that. Only Koyuki seemed to think that being proud of a talent earned through hard work was worth anything.
  • The Contracting Ceremony was conducted by Student Council President Otonashi Kaguya. She would use Telepathy Magic to guide them to the Astrum and help them contact their Diva. They would then obtain Summoning Magic. No one in Class 1 had succeeded on their first try. The first one up was Miō and she succeeded in contracting with Phenex. She wanted to try out her magic at once but was stopped. Liz Liza got annoyed during Kazuki’s turn as he and Kaguya delayed things as they discussed plans to improve relations between the schools. The Diva who contracts with him, however, is a small girl named Leme who is clearly not one of the 72 Pillars. The girl had lost her memory and had no powers but there was a real possibility of Kazuki being declared an Illegal Magician. Koyuki was the last first year to make a contract that day.
  • As Kazuki waited nervously in the infirmary an emergency staff meeting was held to decide his fate. Liz Liza and Kaguya argued against the many voices who wanted to remove his Stigma immediately and send him to the Swordsmanship Division. They noted that Leme had done things exactly as the 72 Pillars did while choosing a contractor. Therefore it was possible she was connected to them in some way and they might be offended depending on how they treated her. The fact that Kazuki had not been granted any Summoning Magic or a Magic Dress helped them argue that is was low risk to wait and not make a hasty decision. In the end Kazuki was essentially placed on “probation” and the Student Council was ordered to monitor him closely. They also changed their original plan to set him up with off-campus housing alone and he would become a resident of the Witch's House. Kazuki was quite relieved upon hearing this news and expressed his gratitude towards them for defending him.

Chapter 3:

  • During magic practice most students were still trying to make a contract with their Diva while Miō and Koyuki were seeking to improve their Summoning Magic. Since Kazuki had been given no such magic Liz Liza assigned him a rather rudimentary exercise to improve his basic magic control. Though she insisted it would help him in the future the task made him a laughingstock in class yet again. One of the students pushed herself so hard to forge a contract that she passed out due to Magic Intoxication. Liz Liza warned the others not to push themselves to that extreme.
  • Kazuki later challenged Miō to a Duel to prove the superiority of his sword skills after she made fun of them. He completely dominated the fight which proved to be the first step toward the Swordsmen gaining greater respect on campus.

Chapter 4:

  • Kazuki’s foster sister was Hayashizaki Kanae, Student Council President of the Swordsmanship Division. She was rather jealous and possessive of her brother and got upset when she found out where he was staying. She went and spoke to various staff members and suggested it would be more appropriate to have him on her side of the school. After his display in the Duel and the fact that he had apparently been given no Summoning Magic it was easy to get most of the staff on her side. Kazuki refused to voluntarily transfer but Kanae decided to force the issue. He would be forced to Duel with Vice-President Kamiizumi Iori during the Inter-Division Tournament using only Summoning Magic. Kanae had trained this girl to use Foresight so unless he could prove he could use more than just simile Summoning Magic and win he would be forced to transfer.
  • Liz Liza had asked Kazuki to keep her informed about any new information regarding Leme. So she was the first to be informed that Leme commanded the 72 Pillars and he was her chosen King who would lead them. Leme could use any power of the 72 Pillars but that ability was dependent on the “intimate bonds” he formed with the Magika Stigma. Liz Liza found the conditions for his power to be absurd and wasn’t sure how others would react after herring this. So she suggested they only tell people Leme could copy the low-level Summoning Magic of other Diva for the time being.

Chapter 5:

  • The National Knight Academy welcomes outside spectators to the Inter-Division matches. They took every precaution they could to shield the stands but there was always a risk involved. With Koyuki once again acting as referee she announced start of the first match. The Magic Division Vice-President Hoshikaze Hikaru faced off against Torazō Yamada of the Swordsmanship Division Student Council. No one expected anything but a one-sided beat down but Torazō proved himself both skilled and resourceful. Despite losing, he put on an exciting performance no one expected and the audience was clearly impressed by him. Kazuki won the right to stay in the Magic Division, at least for the time being, by unlocking more Summoning Magic in dramatic fashion partway thru his match with Iori. Just as Kazuki is celebrating with his friends, an Illegal Magician named Kaya suddenly launched an attack from the stands, summoning two dragons.
  • Due to her years of experience as a Knight, Liz Liza was the first to react to the crisis. She ordered the Student Council members to get ready for battle while the rest saw to the evacuation. She made sure the audience understood this was not a show for their entertainment but a genuine emergency. She used her Mist Magic to obscure the vision of the dragons and provide cover for everyone to the point where she collapsed due to Magic Intoxication. To her annoyance the two sides of the school did not heed their advice to work together from the start. It wasn’t until later that Kaguya and Kanae combined their efforts to turn the tide. The dragons were wiped out but an even bigger crisis happened. Kaya’s body was seized by her Diva Loki, changing the world forever. Only Kazuki had the guts to keep fighting and force his withdrawal but things would never be the same again.

Epilogue:

  • The body camera of an approaching member of the Knight Order recorded Kazuki perfuming a Complete Summoning of Phenex to save the life of a mortally wounded Miō. Liz Liza was no longer able to hide the truth about Leme from the rest of the staff and the Knight Order. In a staff meeting she suggested it was time to officially accept Kazuki as a Magic Division student. Given the new threat of Loki gaining a flesh body they seemed a bit more receptive to the idea. Kazuki spent five days under Magic Intoxication after the battle but Liz Liza was the confident he would recover, having had a similar experience in the past. The loudest voice in opposition was from Board Chairman Amasaki who was suspicious of Leme from the start. His feelings were only amplified by his instincts as a father. He was upset Miō had been in danger and didn’t want her living with a “Harem King”. The Academy’s Headmaster Otonashi Tsukikurō seemed to agree. He vowed to increase the scrutiny of Kazuki and if he should prove untrustworthy Leme’s subjugation would be assigned to the school’s strongest Magika Stigma Kaguya.

Volume 2[]

Chapter 1:

  • The party consisting of Kazuki and Miō failed badly on their first Quest during Golden Week On the next day of school, she called Kazuki to the staff room after class. She told him flat out that Miō was on the verge on being demoted to Rank-B, which would mean eviction from the Witch’s House. Miō had been on thin ice ever since losing to the Rank-E Kazuki in their Dual and this just made matters worse. She refused to let Kazuki take the blame for it. Kazuki asked for leniency but other students were showing real progress and the staff didn’t play favorites. With the Knight Order in crisis due to Loki, producing real results on Quests mattered more than ever. She had called him rather than Miō to encourage him to add Koyuki to their party. This would make them stronger in more than one meaning. Kazuki agreed totally, but the girls were rivals and refused to work together, Liz Liza accused him of not taking the danger seriously. She asked if it was possible for him to learn magic outside the 72 Pillars. Leme materialized and admitted it was possible if their Diva became their ally. But given foreign relations as the Japan’s policy on Illegal Magicians, it seemed unlikely to happen. Koyuki later figured out Miō’s situation and challenged her to a Duel. Liz Liza was among those who were called to bear witness. Kazuki seemed to misread her intent, but this was the best way to gauge Miō’s current power. Hikaru acted as referee and the Duel tuned out to be a dramatic but even contest. It was declared a draw and Miō’s evaluation rose high enough to delay any plans to demote her. Liz Liza wondered if Koyuki went easy on her.

Chapter 2:

  • Charlotte Lieben Frau, the Princess of a small nation under the control of Germany The Dukedom of Seinmundo had made a contract with mysterious Diva she called "Prophet" who had lost his memories and powers. The poor girl had suffered from an illness from birth and he had made his offer when she was on death's door about the time she turned 14. In the end they shared the same body, as he took over the diseased parts of her and enabled her to go outside and have a normal life for the first time. At the same time he would have the chance to recover his own strength. The problem was that Germany demanded strict allegiance to Norse Mythology and any Illegal Magician found there was put to death. "Prophet" used his unique ability as a Diva to fly Lotte on a jet airplane to Japan to seek asylum, thus she became a refugee. There was no evidence he was hostile. Because of Lotte's talent for Telepathy she managed to become fluent in Japanese in only 3 days. Since her magic was already Rank-A level she was permitted to transfer into the Academy despite being a year too young. To avoid the true story getting out most people were told that she was Liz Liza's distant relative.
  • She called together the residents of the Witch's House for a special Student Council meeting. They were the only students told the whole truth about Lotte and her Diva. The Germans had demanded her return but Japan said no, despite badly needing their expertise in the hunt for Loki. At Liz Liza's suggestion "Prophet" was brought out to meet them. They were assured there was no evidence he was harmful to Lotte. Lotte would be staying at the Witch's House under observation, just like Kazuki. Liz Liza also asked Kazuki and Miō to accept Lotte into their party. Lotte was very happy about working with Kazuki and was already very affectionate with him. Lotte became the first official conquest target from outside the 72 Pillars. They were also told that some of Germany's elite Magical Stigma would still be coming to Japan temporarily to assist with the hunt for Loki.

Chapter 3:

  • Lotte took part in a mock battle; her opponent was Hikita Kōhaku of the Swordsmanship Division. Given Lotte’s unique powers, Liz Liza was forced to admit that Lotte was an Illegal Magician. After this demonstration Liz Liza urged Kazuki to accept Lotte into his party. Liz Liza explained to her ignorant student how Lotte’s power could compensate for their shortcomings. She suggested that they should re-challenge the same Quest they had failed before. As they were nearly done for the day and were running low on magic power and stamina they were attacked by a Knight of Germany Beatrix Baumgard. The Germans had arrived in Japan to help with the hunt for Loki, but only for a month. The group had managed to escape from her without any casualties.
  • When Kazuki returned to the school he was called in alone by his teacher. He was shocked to discover the whole thing had been officially condoned. It seemed those in power in Japan were so very desperate for information and help with Loki that they had made a secret deal. They could not just hand the girl over without being condemned by the international community. So they had ordered the Knight Order to simply "look the other way" while the Germans disposed of an innocent girl on their own soil. The attack had occurred on a Haunted Ground so they could claim the death as a simple accident. They assumed that Kazuki and Miō, if they survived, would keep the mouths shut if ordered to. Now the power brokers were very angry that their scheme had failed. Naturally Kazuki was appalled and flat out refused to go along with this plot. Liz Liza was quite happy with his response. She knew he was that kind of person and that was exactly the reason she paired him up with Lotte, having predicted his escape. She also knew that as the future King, he should therefore have enough power to protect her. He had been ordered to go on one more Quest, if they could beat Beatrix that should be the end of it. She hoped that they would accept Kazuki acted on his own to protect his classmate. If Kazuki combined his potential as a King with the amazing strength of Lotte's Diva it might be possible. The only thing that baffled her was that Kazuki mentioned getting help from two young Knights. There should have been nobody there willing to assist them (they were hired by the Board Chairman to bodyguard Miō).

Chapter 6:

  • Kazuki was able to overpower Beatrix and then informed the Knight Order, the Germans were outraged. Liz Liza anticipated a strong reaction and the Headmaster called a Magic Division staff meeting. Liz Liza suggested they could say Kazuki acted on his own to protect Lotte. But the Headmaster pointed out he was only a probationary student. He started to refer to him as an "Illegal Magician" who had just taken out a Knight of Germany and "abducted" his classmate Lotte. Liz Liza argued they were rushing to judgment, but everyone else had been quite intimidated by the power Kazuki had displayed, it was easy to accept the argument he was "dangerous" and Liz Liza found herself the sole voice of opposition. The Knight Order had also just laid charges that Kazuki had taken a Sacred Treasure and had injured two Knights who tried to confiscate it. Liz Liza doubted this story (which wasn't true) but didn't know the facts. It was at that time that Liz Liza truly understood the depths of the conspiracy opposed to Kazuki becoming King. The Knight Order had declared both Kazuki and Lotte Illegal Magicians and said that the Academy should arrest them. Lotte would be returned to Germany while Kazuki's powers would be sealed and he would be banished to the Sword Division. Liz Liza still argued that the Divas of the 72 Pillars could object. But the Headmaster insisted there was no reason to accept a 15 year-old King, and said that Leme was probably manipulating him. Just in case, the Stigma could always be forcibly transferred to someone "more worthy" (in other words someone that those currently in power could control). This was an experimental and dangerous procedure that could cause brain damage. When Board Chairman Amasaki agreed, it was clear no argument would change their decision. The Headmaster would coldly order his own daughter Kaguya, to subjugate and arrest her friends. Liz Liza contacted her former partner Tsukahara Hisatada, for help. Thanks to that, a member of the Sword Division helped Kazuki’s group to escape and offered them shelter.

Volume 3[]

Ten Quad-Core Magicians attacked the Sword Division buildings while classes were in session. Several buildings were demolished and they then began to target the students. The majority who had no confidence to face off against the Magika Stigma chose to run away. The Headmaster ordered the students and staff of the Magic Division to take shelter, insisting it was too dangerous for them to take action. He said they would wait for reinforcements from the Knight Order before trying to take on the Illegal Magicians. Liz Liza knew the Knight Order was in no position to respond right away and many students of the Sword Division were in mortal peril.

She ignored the order and raced to the Swordsmanship Division and once again used her mist magic to obscure the vision of the enemy and to provide cover for the evacuation. She saved many lives but would soon become exhausted. The only magic student who disobeyed the order was Hikaru. Liz Liza asked her to use her speed to rescue the collapsed students and cover for the evacuation until Kazuki arrived She was sure he would turn up much faster than the Knight Order and she asked Hikaru to combine their efforts and assist him. Liz Liza warned her there was more trouble to come, convinced there was a mastermind behind all this. Their combined efforts proved vital to assisting the students to escape to safety.

Once the students were evacuated the “fugitive” Kazuki led a team of friends and allies from both schools and defeated the attackers. Kazuki then exposed the Headmaster as an Illegal Magician and the mastermind of the plot. After his defeat, they provided evidence the Headmaster had based the weapons on years of secret immoral government research related to magic. Board Chairman Amasaki became the new Headmaster and fully supported Kazuki now. The scandal was used to leverage the government to force corrupt officials out and to advance key reforms. These changes included fair treatment of Illegal Magicians who weren’t hostile and the legalization of Sacred Treasures. After all both Kōhaku and Tsukahara Kazuha assisted Kazuki and played a critical role in the battle that saved the school. It was also declared the two schools would be led under one banner now and be treated as equal.

Volume 4[]

An emergency staff meeting was being held. Not only to discuss the parameters for the Chief Student Council President election, but also to discuss a series of attacks by a figure garbed all in black. No one had died yet, but somehow the attacker was able to avoid being seen on the security cameras. As they finished discussing measures to increase security they got to the main topic. It was quickly agreed to have an election in which the students of both divisions were given an equal vote. The new Headmaster was already thinking up ways to set up the election to be favorable to Kazuki. With the old Headmaster gone, Amasaki expected no one to object. But a voice of protest came from the new Board Chairman dispatched from the government, Takasugi Takayoshi. He argued that the divisions had largely been separate and the students didn’t know the students from the rival division that well. Liz Liza argued someone like Kazuki was well known and popular on both sides. But the new Board Chairman shot down their attempt to pre-select the candidate they wanted. The Headmaster was stunned that this newly appointed Board Charmin was immediately trying to work against him and undermine his efforts. The Board Chairman suggested the candidates should demonstrate their strength and leadership qualities to the students first. To that end he suggests 4-person teams made up of two students from each division compete in an Election Tournament.

The only victory the Headmaster achieved in their debate was that a free and fair election would still be held after the tournament. That way if the person who won did so by underhanded means there was still the chance for the students to reject them. Liz Liza told her class about the format for the tournament and later hosted the meeting where the candidates officially entered the race. Some of the rules announced handicapped the abilities of Kazuki and his team in particular. A lottery was held to set the bracket. Kazuki and Kaguya were called to a meeting. The Headmaster told them how he had planned to engineer Kazuki's victory originally and they got mad at him. The Headmaster was growing suspicious of the motives of the new Board Chairman. He had managed to push through approval of this strange tournament. The fact that all but 3 or the 16 teams were led by unproven and irresponsible people was very worrying. He feared they were on that man’s payroll. If he could install a puppet he could gain total control of the Academy. Not only could he derail the Headmaster’s agenda, he would be in a position to influence whole generations of Knights, just as the former Headmaster had done. When Kazuki mentioned the attempt on his life and his belief she was an agent of China, they all suspected they were the ones behind this whole plot.

In the first round, Kazuki’s team won the first match by use of excellent teamwork and strategy. During that match he made an effort to keep Kazuha safe and was able to help her finally find her confidence and display her true skills. Kaguya also won her match with a tremendous advantage in power. The third match was won by the twin sons of the Board Chairman, due to them having recruited such powerful allies. Hikaru won decisively in the fifth match. Kazuki paid attention to the team led by Mibu Akira. This team had Katsura Karin as a member. Though he hadn’t yet told anybody she was the one who tried to kill him before, though it would be hard to prove it. It was clear Karin and the other swordsman Hayashi Shizuka had trained the spell casters in martial arts. They were able to use those skills to win the fight without help from, the swordsmen.

In the first match of the second round, Kaguya is confident. But Kazuki has seen through all their weaknesses and tactics. By working to keep each other safe, Kazuki’s group is able to whittle down their numbers and defeat Kaguya, who officially loses the title of “strongest”. The second match with the twins went exactly as the first round did. The third match became a dangerous affair. Hayashi showed off her ability to pierce right through Defensive Magic and didn’t hesitate to seriously injure their opponents. While Hikaru and Lotte weren’t inferior in terms of magic, their opponents suspiciously kept getting back up after clearly getting to the point where they should have fallen into Magic Intoxication. It was clear to even audience members they were cheating somehow and the Headmaster said the match should be forfeited. But the Board Chairman accused him of favoritism and overruled him, insisting on proof of wrongdoing.

In the end only Hikaru was left and Hayashi subjected her to a savage beating, severely injuring her. The spectators and referee were so stunned by it they were slow to respond until Kazuki stated calling for them to stop the match. Realizing Hayashi fully intended to murder Hikaru, Mibu was barely able to intervene in time, using magic to finish the match without lasting harm. Kazuki and his housemates, together with Liz Liza skipped the last match to make sure Hikaru and her team got medical treatment. After the battle, Hayashi was questioned about the method she used to injure her opponents so badly. She apologizes for going overboard and promised to share the technique with the school if their team won, knowing that idea would appeal to voters.

While on a date, Kazuki and Hikaru were attacked by a group of 10 magicians from the school, all were participants in the tournament who had been eliminated. Kazuki believed they were being controlled by Karin and Hayashi, who were spies and assassins working for China. Kazuki had freed them from control. The Knight Order had taken those freed girls into custody and was supposed to investigate the matter. Kazuki had learned from Beatrix that Hayashi famously had the power to brainwash people. Her Diva could also grant Divine Protection to allies that would restore their magic power after they were defeated. Unfortunately, in an age where magic could deceive people, Kazuki’s word wasn’t enough proof to arrest them. The Board Chairman was also clearly in league with them.

The day of the semi-finals arrived. Kazuki faces the twin brothers in the first round. They get drawn into Lunatic Labyrinth but are the first team to emerge from it and still be fighting. When Kazuki destroys the sisters’ Union Magic, Ryūtaki Miyabi surrenders. Her sister Shinobu and their teammates were outraged but it turned out she only participated in this to test Kazuki, his character and worthiness as a leader. He had so exceeded her expectations that she kissed him on the cheek and confessed to him, stunning the audience. She urged him to add her and her sister to his Harem.

As expected the most dangerous team won the second match and progressed to the finals. Kazuki was called into the Headmaster’s office; the results of the investigation were in. The Knight Order discovered that many of the tournament’s participants had been brainwashed and had been left with no memory of their actions. It also seemed that this brainwashing was also why they had all entered the tournament in the first place. Their behavior had been strange enough to attract the attention of their friends. It seems these girls were among those who were assaulted by that mysterious figure over the past weeks and were brainwashed while under Magic Intoxication. They had also investigated the background of Karin and Hayashi. Karin’s father was a police officer killed in the line of duty by Illegal Magicians during the destruction of Tokyo. She was adopted by the Hayashi family after becoming an orphan. The Germans had told Kazuki Hayashi was a well known agent, so her identity was probably fake. The final match would be their last chance to assassinate Kazuki. They might end up going overboard and exposing their true colors.

Volume 5[]

Before the finals a series of exhibition matches were held. This allowed the eliminated teams to display their talents again. It wound up being Kaguya and Hikaru in a battle for third place. Those two had fought many times and as always it ended with Hikaru’s loss. Kazuki had already discussed his plan with the staff. Without proof, the only way to stop those spies was to expose them publically. If he could force them to use their Summing Magic to openly try to assassinate him during the match it would be awfully hard for even the Board Chairman to excuse it. Kazuki also thought it very likely Hayashi had brainwashed everyone on their team, even Karin. Kazuha’s Summoning Magic could free them, as well as cut of that nasty Divine Protection, but they would have to get their opponents to violate the rules first or the match would be forfeit.

Liz Liza acted as referee. As was the plan Kazuki took grave risks to take on Hayashi and Karin alone. His team displayed excellent teamwork holding the magic users back. He was able to utilize numerous types of magic at once, shocking the audience and frightening Hayashi. She forced Karin to act as her meat shield, who suffered terrible pain as a result. Kazuki managed to attack Hayashi directly and forced them to use their Summoning Magic. Despite the danger the Board Chairman still refused to stop the match, having a logical argument prepared. Kazuha generated a weapon she was able to use to cut off the Divine Protection from the magic users. Though Kōhaku was forced to withdraw due to the damage she took while protecting her. But due to an attack by Mibu, who had never been brainwashed, her weapon was lost before Kazuki could use it to free Karin. Hayashi forced her sister to use a dangerous wide-area attack despite the risk to innocent people. Miō managed to rescue the enemy magicians and Kazuki did the same for Kazuha. In that desperate situation he had only one choice. He apologized to Kazuha before kissing her. Doing a full summoning of her Diva allowed him to disperse all the dangerous magic, free Karin from control and force Hayashi to escape while vowing revenge.

Karin was taken to the infirmary where Kazuki’s group gathered. The Headmaster said a seal would be placed on her Stigma to limit her magic. He planned to send her to prison for life without trial. But both Kazuki and Karin’s teammates objected. They believed she was forced to take those actions due to the influence of her cruel sister, who she desperately wanted the approval of. The Headmaster regarded those two delinquents as criminals too. But they just wanted to get stronger and help the pitiful Karin. They had no idea China was behind it all. They were only called delinquents because they resented having to abandon their goals in life to enroll in this Academy. Those girls believed strongly that if a kindly person reached out to Karin she could be redeemed. Several others, including the Headmaster's step-daughter Miō, also agreed they should give her a chance before condemning her. In the end Kazuki insisted he would take responsibility and monitor Karin. As her target this was the only way to verify she had reformed. He was confident she was no threat to him and he could put himself in a state of heightened awareness so he couldn’t fall victim in his sleep. Relenting to the King, the Headmaster told him to stay by her side full time and would give them a week before sending her to prison.

Kazuki had spent the week in isolation with the captured spy Karin. In the end his kindness won her over and she became his ally. He returned to class just in time for the formal vote. Those radical twin brothers had put on an elaborate election campaign in his absence. Kazuki had left his own campaign to his teammates Miō and Kōhaku. The students were called to a meeting where the results would be announced. The sixteen candidates were up on stage with the Headmaster and Board Chairman waiting for the official tally. Kazuki worried about funny business with the vote count. But in the end Kazuki was elected by a wide margin and gave a speech focusing on unity between the two divisions. Kazuki insisted she must start attending school again, this time in the Magic Division where he could monitor her. An election had been held and Kanae became President again with Kōhaku as Vice-President. Discussing ways to increase the communication between the schools the Student Council wound up proposing the creation of a school newspaper, which was approved.

Yumeno Shiori won the post of newspaper chairman. Miō noted she was the top of the Rank-B students and frankly at Rank-A level. They spent the day beginning to set up the newspaper office in the Witch’s House. A few days later they were ready to publish the first newspaper issue. Shiori had overworked herself and was exhausted. Kazuki focused on introducing himself and the other Student Council members. He also outlined his policy plans and welcomed suggestions and comments. He also included information on how each school operated. When he contacted the Headmaster for final approval he was told that the Board Chairman and his entire family had vanished without a trace. That night news reports stated there had been a massive coordinated strike on all Knight Order posts in western Japan by a mysterious force including mysterious Illegal Magicians. All of western Japan had now been conquered by this unknown army and was now under a complete communications blackout.

The former Board Chairman appeared on TV announcing that western Japan was declaring independence and calling itself Yamato. All the politicians with secret ties to China appeared to be involved in this plot and had made an alliance with Loki. They were claiming legitimacy under the banner of the Japanese Mythology rather than the 72 Pillars, which people weren’t necessarily opposed to. By doing so they could maintain the facade that Yamato wasn’t just a puppet state of China. The Japanese Divas appeared to have fallen into a Wild God state after being ignored for so long. Their contractors had apparently all joined this movement too. Kazuha had avoided this fate by building her Diva a shrine and caring for him. A border wall was being constructed. The Headmaster and Kazuki were annoyed that both Futsunushi no Kami and Leme had known something was going on with the Japanese Divas but hadn’t told anybody.

They met with two third years Kodzuki Kanon and Yagumo Akane who were already serving in the Knight Order. They were the Student Council members from last year. They knew all the rumors about Kazuki and were very interested. They greeted Kaguya, Hikaru and Koyuki. They were then introduced to Miō, Kanae, Kōhaku and Kazuha. They informed them of the situation and expected Yamato to invade further but it was hard to fully oppose them because Loki’s followers were causing trouble in the east and dividing their resources. When their leader was captured, Kanon was effectively pressed into the role, despite being a student.

The students were called into a meeting. To respond to an urgent request for reinforcement at the border, Kazuki would be leading an elite force of students from both schools to reinforce them. Kazuki told them this was entirely voluntary but urged those with the courage to fight to volunteer. They wound up with a force of about 150 people. The school had become the headquarters for the war effort. 10 more third years who escaped enemy territory gathered there. They were suddenly joined by the German Knights Beatrix, Damian and Eleonora Abendroth too. They offered to cooperate as allies. Kazuki vouched for their strength. The Germans and the Student Council members were put in charge of squads under Kazuki’s command. They would meet up with the 200 Knights who escaped the west. But Kazuki insisted the seniors must rest first and prepared a meal. They were ambushed by the enemy on their way to the front lines, a key indication there was a spy somewhere leaking their movements to the enemy.
